IGFL2 belongs to the insulin-like growth factor family of signaling molecules that play critical roles in cellular energy metabolism and in growth and development, especially prenatal growth.IGFL2 gene contains 5 exons, of which the first is noncoding.Detected IGFL2 in cerebellum, heart, placenta, spleen, stomach, testis, and thymus.The somatomedins, or insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), comprise a family of peptides that play important roles in mammalian growth and development.
